Gijs and his tuba join Young
“Bigger is better”, Gijs Kikkert must have thought when he was allowed to choose his own instrument after the obligatory recorder lessons. He picked the bass tuba. It is now his ambition to one day occupy Perry Hoogendijk’s position in the Concertgebouw Orchestra. For the time being, this summer he will be a regular fixture in Concertgebouworkest Young.
In this video, Young participant (in 2019) and tuba player José Guilherme Neves talks about how wonderful his time with Concertgebouworkest Young was. He realised afterwards that the experience had been a turning point for him, and he believes Young will be the same for Gijs.
