Pan Fonds
The Pan Fonds aims to inspire young people up to the age of 25 with physical disabilities to listen to classical music and motivate them to play an instrument themselves, adapted if necessary. The Pan Fonds is committed to bringing this theme to the attention of a wider audience.
Music without limitations
Pan is a mythological figure who plays the flute and has a physical disability: he has two goat legs.
Initiators
The Pan Fonds is a named fund established by private donors Anneke and Charles Zijderveldt and administered by the Concertgebouw Orchestra Foundation.
I will never forget the happy look on that boy's face when he entered the concert hall where the orchestra was tuning up. His disability means he is very much confined to his home. We want to break through that wall, as it were.
Activities
There are many ways to fulfil the ambitions of the Pan Fonds. The activities on which the fund focuses are:
- Offering young people up to the age of 25 with disabilities access to concerts by the Concertgebouw Orchestra, in particular family and school concerts. Attending a concert can be a logistically complex affair for someone with a physical disability. Such a concert visit also sometimes requires extra preparation, including specially developed teaching packages. For example, for blind visitors.
- Organising chamber music concerts at locations that are accessible to young people with disabilities. In other words, going to them to bring them into contact with classical music.
- Sharing experiences and publicising them, with the aim of introducing more young people to this theme.
