Het Concertgebouw, Amsterdam
Today’s greatest conductors bring symphonic masterpieces to life in the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s E Series.
The E Series lets you see and hear some of the world’s best conductors at work with the Concertgebouw Orchestra. These include Herbert Blomstedt, a true living legend. Who could ask for a better guide to Bruckner’s wellloved Fourth Symphony? Some seventy years his junior is Klaus Mäkelä, who has become a favourite maestro with audiences in a very short time. This season, he is juxtaposing the Mozart Requiem with music by Sibelius. Jaap van Zweden is juxtaposing a concert performance of Act I of Wagner’s Die Walküre with a world premiere by Anna Clyne featuring artist in residence Martin Fröst.
Conductor emeritus Riccardo Chailly conducts Rachmaninoff, and honorary guest conductor Iván Fischer thrills with works by all the composers whose names adorn the balconies in the Main Hall.
Daniel Harding conducts Mahler’s Ninth Symphony, Mirga Gražinyte ̇ Tyla will be introducing you to the beautiful music of Weinberg. Plus you won’t want to miss Kirill Petrenko, the enigmatic chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, who is back at the Concertgebouw Orchestra’s helm for the first time in ten years to conduct Bartók’s The Wooden Prince.
