the most beautiful Sunday afternoons

Z series

The Concertgebouw Orchestra’s Matinee Series lets you experience the most beautiful Sunday afternoons. You’ll hear well-loved classics and symphonic surprises – all performed by conductors and soloists of world renown.

The Z series puts your Sunday afternoons to good use! The series consists of eight unforgettable concerts. There is much to enjoy for lovers of vocal-symphonic repertoire. Including Mahler's all-encompassing Third Symphony conducted by our future chief conductor, Klaus Mäkelä, Schoenberg's Gurre-Lieder conducted by Riccardo Chailly or Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem with John Eliot Gardiner and his Monteverdi Choir. Dutch soprano Lenneke Ruiten will make her Concertgebouw Orchestra debut with that programme, and she’ll return just one month later to sing a beautiful concert aria by Handel conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm.

Of course, there will be plenty of instrumental music, as well. Who could resist an evening of enchanting sounds conducted by our honorary guest conductor, Iván Fischer? Or Berlioz’ Symphonie fantastique under the direction of Fabio Luisi, Schubert's Sixth Symphony with Santtu-Matias Rouvali or Tchaikovsky's Fourth with Jaap van Zweden?
