Artist in residence Janine Jansen and musicians from the Concertgebouworkest will be given plenty of space in Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale.
The Soldier's Tale is a parable about a soldier who trades his violin with the devil for a book that can predict the future of the economy. In 1918 Igor Stravinsky translated an old Russian fairy tale into the spirit of his time. He noted that subsequent performances should in turn be adapted to the time and place where they would be performed. Six musicians from the Concertgebouworkest and artist in residence Janine Jansen are happy to listen. They are assisted by actor Vincent van der Valk and dancer Carolyn Bolton.
This concert registration offers the opportunity to zoom in on all performers. Violinist Janine Jansen encourages the musicians and the actor with her intense playing, Van der Valk brings the different characters of the story to life, Carolyn Bolton transforms through the music and through the words into a soldier, a princess or a devil. It reflects the state of mind of the musicians: driving, waiting, romantic, still.
