Yefim Bronfman, the Concertgebouworkest’s artist in residence this season, is performing Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto.

Pianist Yefim Bronfman has been a welcome guest with the Concertgebouworkest for many years, and will be serving as its artist in residence during the 2021–22 season. He’s getting off to a good start with Beethoven’s ground-breaking Piano Concerto No. 3. The prominent role Beethoven assigns to the orchestra gives the Third Piano Concerto great symphonic appeal. It will take a first-rate soloist to compete with the orchestra. But if anyone can do it, it’s Yefim Bronfman.

Wagner's Overture Tannhäuser focuses on the artist-hero. Knight-musician Tannhäuser prefers the unattainable Elisabeth to the sensual love for Venus.

The leading conductor Daniel Harding has a penchant for French repertoire, which is given free rein in this poetic, colourful programme. With Claude Debussy’s La mer, Debussy once again proved himself a genius.
