Earl Lee

Earl Lee, winner of the 2022 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award, is currently assistant conductor with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Ann Arbor Symphony, having previously held the positions of associate conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and resident conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. The Canadian-Korean musician studied cello in Philadelphia and New York, going on to study conducting at the Manhattan School of Music and the New England Conservatory. Lee has performed with such orchestras as the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, the hr-Sinfonieorchester, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. Lee was one of two musicians selected by Kurt Masur for a Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Scholarship in 2013. In 2012, he performed as cellist and guest member of the Harlem String Quartet with jazz greats Gary Burton and Chick Corea at such illustrious venues as Symphony Hall in Boston and the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York.
