Born in the Russian city of Archangel, Ivan Podyomov began his musical education under the tutelage of Ivan Pushetchnikov at the Gnessin State Musical College in Moscow, continuing his studies with Maurice Bourgue at the Geneva conservatory.
While still a student, he won a number of leading oboe competitions, including the ARD International Music Competition in Munich (in 2011), the Geneva Competition (2010), the Sony Oboe Competition in Japan (2009) and the Prague Spring International Music Competition (2008).
In 2009, Ivan Podyomov debuted at the Berlin Philharmonie with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. He has also made solo appearances with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the Saint Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra under such conductors as Manfred Honeck, Michael Sanderling and David Afkham. He has performed at the festivals of Salzburg, Lucerne, Prague and Montpellier.
Before joining the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2016, he held the post of principal oboist with the Bamberg Symphony. He has als given guest performances as first oboist with the Orchestra Mozart, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
His chamber music partners have included the Hagen Quartet, Lars Vogt, Sabine Meyer, Maurice Bourgue and Jacques Zoon.
Ivan Podyomov teaches at the Hochschule Luzern school of music.
