Hailing from Seoul, Jae-Won Lee studied at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique in Paris starting in 2002. She went on to study with Mihaela Martin first in Geneva in 2010, then at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne from 2012 to 2014. She has worked as a substitute with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the orchestra of the Opéra de Paris.

Lee was appointed assistant principal of the second violin section of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in 2014. A few months later, she successfully passed the Concertgebouworkest audition, joining the orchestra as a substitute during its Seoul tour in April 2015 to get to know her future colleagues better.

Lee assumed the post of assistant principal of the second violin section in October 2015.

Since 2018 she has a Jofredus Cappa violin from 1697 on loan thanks to contributions from private donors to the Foundation Concertgebouworkest.
