María Dueñas

After a series of first prizes at renowned international competitions, María Dueñas made waves in 2021, particularly at the Menuhin Violin Competition, where she won the first prize and the audience prize. In April 2023, she was honored in her home country with the prestigious Premio Princesa de Girona de las Artes y las Letras. 

Born in 2002 in Granada, Spain, the 12-year-old came to the University in Dresden on a scholarship. For several years, she has been studying with the world-renowned violin teacher Boris Kuschnir in her chosen home of Vienna. 

The versatile musician, who also composes with passion, is now in demand worldwide and has already performed with many major orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Berlin, Philadelphia Orchestra, and NHK Symphony Orchestra, under conductors such as Marek Janowski, Manfred Honeck, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Gustavo Dudamel. 

In the spring of 2023, her first album was released by Deutsche Grammophon, featuring Beethoven's Violin Concerto with her own cadenzas. María Dueñas performs on the Nicolò Gagliano violin, on loan from the German Music Life Foundation, and the 1710 Stradivari 'Camposelice', on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.
