Anna de Veij Mestdagh

Born in the Dutch town of Wassenaar in 1965, Anna de Veij Mestdagh studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Bouw Lemkes and Ilja Grubert from 1983 to 1990. Before joining the Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1992, she worked as a substitute with various ensembles and was a member of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra for a short time. She has also played in the Ebony Band.

In addition to playing in the orchestra, Ms de Veij Mestdagh enjoys playing chamber music, an activity she also engages in at home with her husband - bassoonist Gustavo Núñez - and their five children. Writing is also a passion. Since September 2010 she writes columns for Preludium, the monthly programme magazine of the Concertgebouw and the Concertgebouw Orchestra.

Since 2014 Ms de Veij Mestdagh plays a violin built by Alessandro d'Espine (Turin, 1817), which was purchased by Foundation Concertgebouworkest for violinist Janke Tamminga, who played this instrument until her retirement in 2014.
