Hans Alting

At the age of twenty, Hans Alting joined the trumpet section of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in January 1984. He graduated from the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he studied with Klaas Kos, in 1986.

He formed a successful duo with organist Piet Wiersma, a partnership that lasted from 1985 to 2000. The two recorded a solo CD together at the Haarlem St Bavo Church. Alting was a member of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble from 1983 to 2002, and subsequently performed chamber music regularly with the Ebony Band.

Hans Alting founded the Fanfare Orchestra of the Netherlands in 1995, serving as its artistic manager and E-flat cornetist during its seven-year existence. Under the direction of Jacob Slagter, highlights included the group’s Sunday Morning Series concerts and its performances at the World Music Contest Kerkrade. The ensemble produced two CDs.

Alting has been a member of the Brass of the Concertgebouworkest, which he co-founded in 2002, and organised a number of projects and concerts up until 2012.

Hans Alting has on loan various trumpets from the collection of the Foundation Concertgebouworkest, ranging from a C trumpet to a Flügelhorn. A number of these instruments were donated to the Foundation by private donors. This way Hans Alting has the right instrument for every repertoire.

In addition to his job as a trumpet player, he has worked as an NLP master coach and an internationally certified NLP trainer since 2014. Under the name of Petrousjka, he gives mental training sessions and masterclasses at European conservatories. In recent years he gave masterclasses at Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Lucerne School of Music and Conservatorium van Amsterdam. During summers he teaches and conducts the 'Brass' of Concertgebouworkest Young.

Since 2020 he is a 'Somatic Experiencing Practitioner' and provides stress regulation in the Performing Arts.
