Jonathan Wegloop

Jonathan Wegloop joined the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in August 2023. Previously, he was a member of the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg (since 2011), WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln (since 2020) and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (since 2017). 

Born and bred in Amsterdam, Wegloop began playing the horn at the age of ten. A graduate of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam as a student of Jacob Slagter, he undertook his masterstudies at ArtEZ University of the Arts with Fokke van Heel and at Musikhochschule Köln under the direction of Paul van Zelm.  

He discovered his passion for orchestral playing through projects with the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, as well as performing at the Verbier Festival. 

Wegloop has performed as soloist in Richard Strauss' and Glière’s horn concertos, and appeared as one of the soloists of Schumann's Konzertstück for four horns and orchestra under the baton of Kent Nagano (in 2018) as well as Daniele Gatti (in 2022). An enthusiastic chamber musician, he performs regularly with horn quartet and also enjoys working with brass and wind ensembles. 

Jonathan Wegloop has been invited to perform with such orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic, Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. 

Wegloop teaches the horn at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague; between 2020 and 2023 taught at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.
