About this concert

Concertgebouw Orchestra Young is the international youth orchestra catering for young people aged fourteen to eighteen who could use a little extra support. Since its successful launch in 2019, Young has gained wide acclaim for its uniqueness and innovation: this summer project has turned out to be exactly what the music world needed. Held for the third time in August, over seventy talented young people from every corner of Europe will be meeting up. After an intensive summer programme, they will be presenting themselves as a youth orchestra at The Concertgebouw and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

Under the direction of Gustavo Gimeno, they will be performing a recent work by rising star Francisco Coll, followed by two masterpieces from the orchestral repertoire: the Beethoven Violin Concerto with Isabelle Faust as soloist and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 (‘From the New World’). Afterwards, the young people, like those who participated the first two summers Young was held, will return to their home countries as active ambassadors for classical music. The very future of music is right here onstage. It promises to be a very special experience, both for the musicians themselves and for audiences.

This concert will be broadcast online starting 9.05 p.m. (CEST)
