1931, the Concertgebouw Orchestra travels to Epinay-sur-Seine

The Concertgebouw travels to Epinay-sur-Seine, France, to record a concert film at the Tobis Klangfilm studio. Silent newsreel.

At the Tobis Klangfilm studio the Main Hall of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw was recreated, including the famous staircase. Thus the orchestra played in a more or less familiar setting with plenty of space for cameras, microphones and proper lighting.

1934, Mengelberg inspects the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium

Documentary in which Mengelberg discusses the course of events before the outdoor concert on 2 June 1934 at the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium. Mengelberg notes that the men in the orchestra as well as the choir may have a drink to stay warm, but not the women in the choir "because they might get too enthusiastic".

This film by Jaap van Eyck examines Mengelberg’s role during the Second World War.

During the war, Mengelberg collaborated with the German occupiers. In 1945, he was banned for life from conducting in the Netherlands. This documentary shows that, despite all this, Mengelberg tried to support several dozen Jews during the war.
