Unique edition of ‘Donald Duck’ with the Concertgebouw Orchestra

Wed, Sep 3, 2025

This week, subscribers to the Dutch-language Donald Duck magazine will get a special edition about classical music in the mail. In an exclusive collaboration between our orchestra and the most famous duck in the world, Duckburg’s own 'Kwekgebouworkest' goes on tour, along with their new employee Donald Duck.

Magical music

In this brand-new adventure story, all sorts of things go wrong, as usual, and especially once ‘Zwarte Magica’ the witch gets wind of the ‘magical’ music being made at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, the mood threatens to become explosive. And of course, life’s never easy anyway for Donald Duck, who’s now working for the orchestra.

Chief conductor designate Klaus Mäkelä thought it was a fun idea, and he was delighted to have his name ‘duckified’.

Our managing director Dominik Winterling says:

This special edition is a fun and imaginative part of our ambition to introduce as many people as we can to the magic of classical music. All of us at the Concertgebouw Orchestra were really happy about this collaboration with the weekly Donald Duck magazine and its publisher DPG Media. I hope that many young readers enjoy and that it arouses their curiosity about our concerts, so that we can share the magic with them too.

Where can I get one?

The special edition will be sent to all Dutch subscribers along with the regular weekly magazine on Thursday 4 September. Since the ‘ducks’ are passed on to many other family members, it will reach an audience of 1.5 million readers age 6 and older. The special edition will also be handed out at a special Donald Duck stand during Opening Night at Sloterpark on 12 September. And above this section is the special edition online (Dutch only). If you’re not a Donald Duck subscriber and would like a copy of your own, ask for one at the Vriendenbalie (desk) across from the cloakroom at one of the next few concerts.

The special edition of Donald Duck was made possible with the financial support of the Foundation Concertgebouworkest.
