The great symphonic repertoire

world-renowned conductors and soloists

B series Thursday

B series Thursday

The Concertgebouw Orchestra’s oldest series is a detailed cross section of the symphonic repertoire led by world-renowned conductors.

The B series offers listeners the best that symphonic music has to offer. During the 2023/2024 season, Klaus Mäkelä will grace the stage with three programmes. He will wield his baton over such classics as Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’ and Debussy’s La mer, in addition to works by Mozart, Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn, Mahler and Ravel. You will also hear Ravel’s music conducted by our honorary guest conductor, Iván Fischer. Music from England will be well represented by conductors Andrew Manze and Daniel Harding: in addition to works by Vaughan Williams, Elgar’s Cello Concerto and Violin Concerto will also be on the programme.

You will hear Bruckner's Seventh Symphony conducted by Myung-whun Chung and Beethoven's Seventh under Joana Mallwitz. Antoine Tamestit will debut in Gubaidulina's Viola Concerto conducted by Jaap van Zweden, Jean-Guihen Queyras will play Schumann's Cello Concerto, and Olivier Patey will be the soloist in Mozart's Clarinet Concerto. Other soloists also include pianists Yuja Wang and Emanuel Ax, and violinists Frank Peter Zimmermann and Vilde Frang. Not surprisingly, the B series is known as the orchestra’s flagship subscription series.
