Essentials: Schumann’s Symphony No. 3

The Essentials series introduces you to the masterpieces you will be happy to know, performed by the world-famous Concertgebouw Orchestra and complete with a lively introduction by the incomparable Thomas Vanderveken. At Essentials we welcome a new generation of music lovers, and the concerts typically have a pleasant informal atmosphere.

Essentials starts at 9 p.m. with an imaginative introduction to the programme (in Dutch).

The Concertgebouw Orchestra and its chief conductor designate Klaus Mäkelä take you on a journey with Schumann's Third Symphony, nicknamed ' Rhenish '. Inspired by landscapes and events along the Rhine, Robert Schumann created a symphony full of noble sounds and effervescent melodies. Impressions of a romantic trip with his wife Clara are strung into a five-part musical adventure that never ceases to fascinate. Schumann at his best!
