Born in 1963, Hans Alting enrolled at the Groningen Municipal Conservatory in 1980 where he studied with Freddy Grin. He concluded his studies at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Klaas Kos in 1986.

He joined the trumpet section of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra while still a student in January 1984.

He formed a successful duo with organist Piet Wiersma, a partnership that lasted from 1985 to 2000. The two recorded a solo CD together at the Haarlem St Bavo Church. Alting was a member of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble from 1983 to 2002, and subsequently performed chamber music regularly with the Ebony Band.

Hans Alting founded the Fanfare Orchestra of the Netherlands in 1995, serving as its artistic manager and E-flat cornetist during its seven-year existence. Under the direction of Jacob Slagter, highlights included the group’s Sunday Morning Series concerts and its performances at the World Music Contest Kerkrade. The ensemble produced two CDs.

Alting has been a member of the Brass of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, which he co-founded in 2002, and organised a number of projects and concerts up until 2012.

Hans Alting playes several trumpets from the instrument collection of the RCO donors’ foundation Stichting Donateurs.

Since 2014, Alting is also a certified NLP Master Coach, give workshops and provide psychological training to musicians under the name of Petrousjka.
