Krešimir Stražanac studied voice with Dunja Vejzović and song interpretation with Cornelis Witthoefft at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, and privately with Jane Thorner Mengedoht and Hanns-Friedrich Kunz. He has won prizes at various competitions including the Cantilena Gesangswettbewerb in Bayreuth and the International Hugo Wolf Competition in Slovenia.
As a permanent member of the Zurich Opera House ensemble, the Croatian bass-baritone has appeared in operas by Peter Eötvös, Giacomo Puccini and Richard Strauss.
Over the last few years, Stražanac has also given first performances with numerous orchestras, building up an extensive concert repertoire including the Passions and many other works by J.S. Bach, the Mozart and Brahms Requiems, Franck’s Les béatitudes and Bruckner’s Te Deum.
He has given regular lieder recitals in Europe and Japan, and has collaborated on a number of CD and DVD recordings of such works as Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg under the direction of Jaap van Zweden and Bach’s St John Passion with Concerto Köln and the Bavarian Radio Chorus led by Peter Dijkstra.
Stražanac is making his first appearance with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, under the baton of Philippe Herreweghe, in December 2017.
