Ronald Karten has held the post of principal bassoonist with the Concertgebouworkest since 1998. For many years, he was also a member of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Fodor Quintet.

Karten has given various masterclasses in and outside the Netherlands. He has also performed as a soloist with all the major Dutch orchestras, including the Concertgebouworkest.

He was the first Dutch bassoonist to record Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto K 191 and the Sinfonia Concertante K 364/320d, a cd recording he made with Amsterdam Sinfonietta. Ronald Karten teaches bassoon at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Ronald Karten has a reed cutting machine on loan from the Foundation Concertgebouworkest with which he can make his own reeds easier and with Swiss precision.
