The National Children’s Choir is part of Vocaal Talent Nederland (the Foundation for Vocal Talent in the Netherlands), which also includes the National Boys’ Choir, the National Women’s Youth Choir and the National Mixed Youth Choir. Wilma ten Wolde serves as artistic director of the whole organization. Irene Verburg is the choir’s vocal coach.
The National Children’s Choir is open to talented children aged ten to fifteen from all over the Netherlands. A team of teachers coaches the children at various regional teaching locations.
The National Children’s Choir performed at the christening of Princess Amalia. It had performed in the Netherlands and abroad with orchestras including the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under such renowned conductors as Sir Simon Rattle, Bernard Haitink, Jaap van Zweden, Mariss Jansons, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Philippe Herreweghe, Markus Stenz and Jordi Savall.
The National Children’s Choir last performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in March 2018, participating in Bach’s St Matthew Passion under Ton Koopman. In January 2015 the choir performed together with the National Boys’ Choir in Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 under the direction of Daniele Gatti.
