Young talent

‘I have always admired young, talented people. When growing up, I was taught to maximise my potential. And I am very inspired by how young musicians of the Academy of the Concertgebouw Orchestra maximise their potential.

As a Companion, I contribute to a training spot at the Academy, as the development of top talent is of the essence for the orchestra to remain one of the world’s best orchestras. I am proud I can contribute to this.

At the same time, being a Companion also enriches your own life. Being in touch with the orchestra teaches you about classical music, the life of a musician and the right mentality. There are similarities between a professional athlete's mindset and young people's working life and how to thrive under these circumstances. Leadership, ambition and discipline - subjects we can relate to!

Reaching more people

It is beautiful how the Concertgebouw Orchestra is working on reaching a wider audience! Not all young people come into contact with classical symphonic music, while it can give you so much.

Listening to music during a concert enables me to think about specific issues which have been playing in my head for a while. All of a sudden, I have found a solution. The music releases inner peace, which makes me creative.

The orchestra is expanding its programmes and making adjustments to ensure more and more people become familiar with the orchestra. For example, Opening Night, the free outdoor concert, and the lullabies the orchestra created together with Zwitsal are still being listened to daily. I was a part of that campaign, which made me so happy!’
