Message about the cancelled concerts

09 April 2020

Four weeks have passed since the Concertgebouworkest was informed that it would not be allowed to perform for an audience. All the orchestra’s concerts and events have been cancelled until 1 July. With this email, we wish to inform you of the measures taken to resolve the situation involving these cancelled concerts.

Unfortunately, we are not in a position to reschedule these programmes. Our concerts are planned years in advance owing to the schedules of conductors, soloists, choirs and halls. There is simply no leeway for us to move them. The new season will hopefully start in September, from which time it will be possible to a limited extent to incorporate extra concerts into the schedule. For this reason, we will compensate you for the cost of the concert tickets you have purchased.

Compensation for your concert tickets

We are offering you the option of converting your concert tickets to the cancelled concerts to a credit which you can exchange when purchasing tickets to our concerts in the 2020–21 season. To that end, we are adhering to the industry-wide initiative ‘Save your ticket, enjoy later’ (Bewaar je ticket, geniet later), which was unveiled today by theatres and concert halls.

Many of our subscribers and ticket buyers have recently informed us that they wish to convert their concert tickets to a donation in support of the orchestra in these uncertain times. We appreciate this tremendously, and are happy to offer you this option as well.

Should you wish to support the Concertgebouworkest in other ways – by making a single donation or by joining our donation programme, for instance – we would, of course, be very grateful. For more information, please visit

In addition, you may request a refund. We are adhering to the Coronavirus Crisis Ticketing Scheme (Regeling ticketgelden coronacrisis) and will be informing you of further details at a later time.

We will be contacting you in the coming weeks to let you know about the various options. We would ask that you please wait for us to contact you so that we can help you in the best way we can.

Thank you

The coronavirus crisis has had an enormous impact on the Concertgebouworkest, as it has on society as a whole. This is why it has taken us some time to tell you more about the options involving compensation for your concert tickets. We would like to thank you for your patience – and for the heart-warming messages we have received from you.

In the meantime, we hope you will experience our music at home. You may already be aware of the streams we are broadcasting three times a week on YouTube, Facebook and our website in the coming weeks and months. In April and May, you can also watch concert recordings on Sunday mornings starting at 10.30 a.m. on RTL Z. We invite you to read more about all our initiatives in the coming period on our website.
